HAPPY HEINY’S BACKGROUND
Happy Heiny’s did not start as a business venture. Linda and Mike Byerline created their own cloth diapers in January 2002 in response to the birth of their third child, Sarah Grace, who was born prematurely and developed chronic lung disease from the ventilator which also helped save her life. Due to the chemicals in disposable diapers, doctors recommended that the new parents consider switching to cloth diapers in hopes of decreasing their daughter’s need for further medications and potential hospitalizations.
After switching Sarah Grace to cloth diapers, doctors documented a 50 percent decrease in her need for hospitalization and medication. However, the cloth diapers that Linda and Mike were using at the time did not fit Sarah Grace correctly due to her petite size. Further research found that there was not any cloth diaper products on the market at were made specifically for premature babies. As a result, Linda created her own cloth diapers that fit Sarah Grace comfortably and didn’t cause rashes.
While Linda was sewing her own cloth diapers for her daughter, she found at times that she would have extra diapers. When this happened, she would sell the extra diapers on eBay. The sales of her extra diapers proved to be quite successful – on several occasions bids for one diaper reached a near frenzy with an offer high of $250 per diaper. Linda quickly realized that other moms were interested in providing their children with safe and easy-to-use cloth diapers. Within six months of creating Happy Heiny’s, Linda began selling her diapers to wholesalers and within a year Happy Heiny’s diapers were being sold to retailers all over the world.
HAPPY HEINY’S PRODUCTS
Happy Heiny’s diapers are the next generation in cloth diapering. Gone are the diapers that many consumers conjure up in their minds. Happy Heiny’s diapers include Aplix® Velcro and do not use dangerous diaper pins. Additionally, the modern designed diapers are made of luxuriously soft custom-milled fleece that is comfortable and helps to reduce rashes.
Happy Heiny’s diapers come with Aplix® brand hook & loop closures snaps (which are very similar to Velcro) -- making diaper changes fast, easy to use and safer for baby and mom. The Happy Heiny’s design is also ideal for squirmy babies and busy toddlers. Other design elements include the lack of leg casings, which allow for a better fitting diaper, eradicate red marks on the baby and help to better contain messes.
Happy Heiny’s products require no special cleaning. For breast feeding babies, simply throw the diaper in the wash. Babies consuming formula and solids tend to have a heavier mess, yet cleaning is still simple. Happy Heiny’s recommends hanging the soiled diaper over the toilet and the mess falls right into the toilet. Then, the diaper is ready for the washing machine.
The Happy Heiny’s Pocket Diapers can be used on their own with an insert of your choice as a diaper or as a cover for fitted diapers like the Heiny Hugger or Happy Hempy for added protection. The Pocket Diapers are made of custom-milled fleece and 100 percent laminated polyester outers which will keep you and your baby dry. The prints are excellent for daytime use and the solid colors are ideal for long trips, overnight use and for heavy wetters. The Solid Colored Pocket Diapers have been tested for 12 hours or more at night with no wicking for most babies.
Happy Heiny’s Huggers™ are the company’s popular Sherpa fitted diapers. They are made of two layers of highly absorbent Sherpa and three layers of terrycloth for maximum protection – without being too bulky. Heiny Huggers are available in natural off-white. Happy Heiny’s Huggers do require a cover. For best results, Stacinator Wool or Fleece covers are recommended.
Happy Hempys are fitted diapers and do need to be used with a cover. The diaper is made of two layers of Hemp Fleece, which is a combination of 55 percent hemp and 45 percent cotton. Parents can choose an optional layer of custom-milled micro fleece on the inside to keep the baby feeling dry; the Happy Hempy without micro fleece is an all natural diaper.
Happy Hempys have elastic at the legs and back to allow for a snug yet comfortable fit. They are made with Aplix® brand hook and loop closures which fit a wide range of babies and make for very fast diaper changes on wiggly little ones. The main benefit of Happy Hempys is that parents can decide what to stuff them with and how much stuffing the baby needs. Inserts are sold separately.
Happy Hempys have been pre-washed to remove oily build-up and to help prevent shrinkage. For night-time use, fleece and wool covers are ideal, as they allow baby's skin to breathe all night. Stacinator fleece or wool covers also help to keep the baby dry.
Happy Heiny’s Hemp Stuffins and Inserts, which are placed into the diaper and replaced with each diaper change, provide seven layers of hemp fleece in the desired wet zone for the child. The Stuffins, which are completely chemical-free, are uniquely designed to fit Happy Heiny’s Pocket Diapers and Happy Hempy fitted diapers. They have a contoured shape for the very best fit.
Hemp Stuffins feature a pocket design that adds extra absorbency where the baby needs it without increasing the bulk of the diaper. Happy Heiny‘s suggests placing the oval all the way to the front of the Stuffin for boys; while girls ovals should be placed in the center. The small oval insert slip stays safely in place and the Stuffins get better with each washing. Extra ovals are available as needed.
The Micro-Fiber Stuffins are made with specially manufactured micro fiber terry inserts and three layers of soft, very absorbent micro fiber, which allow parents to choose the absorption rate that fits the individual baby. This creates more flexibility and freedom for busy parents who may need diapers to last longer because of activity and time of day.
Happy Heiny’s also offers diapering accessories, including wet bags that fit five to eight wet diapers inside (depending on the diaper size). Unlike other wet bags that use zippers, Happy Heiny’s wet bags have an Aplix closure, allowing for quick, one-handed closure and keeps unpleasant odors inside the bag.
Momma or Me Tote Bags were originally designed for Sarah Grace as a "diaper bag" for her doll diapers. Linda soon realized that these tote bags were also a perfect quick trip diaper/carry-all bag. Small enough to be convenient to carry (without feeling like you are carrying a huge diaper bag), these tote bags are big enough for a few unused diapers, a wallet and keys. Each tote is equipped with an outside pocket and a Velcro closure. The larger pocket also has a Velcro closure for quick access.
Happy Heiny’s offers Regular and Postpartum/Overnight Mama Pads. The Regular Mama pads consist of two layers of Hemp Fleece with a layer of custom milled micro-fleece and a single outer layer of PUL to prevent leaks. Each pad was designed with wings including snaps to hold the pad in place. Testers have reported that these mama pads contain leaks better than any disposable pad and are 100 percent more comfortable.
Postpartum/Overnight Mama Pads consist of three layers of Hemp Fleece, with a layer of custom milled micro-fleece and a single outer layer of PUL to prevent leaks. Each pad also has wings with snaps to hold the pad in place. These pads are longer and thicker than Regular Mama Pads and are great for overnight or for heavy flow. They are also sold in several soft colors: butter, white, pink, sage, lavender and turquoise.
Happy Heiny’s Hemp Jersey Breast Pads have five thick layers for excellent absorption during nursing. Each pad measures five inches in diameter and provides full protection. All Jersey Breast Pads have been pre-washed to prime the fabric.
For heavy leaking, Happy Heiny’s recommends individuals use its Hemp Fleece Breast Pads. Including three layers of Hemp Fleece for excellent absorption, each pad measures five inches in diameter.
Happy Heiny’s Pocket Trainers are designed particularly with a busy toddler in mind and makes it easy for potty training as children can pull the trainers up and down since it’s equipped with an elastic waistband. Snaps can also be added for ease in messy clean ups and to make stuffing easier. Another option is to add snaps to one side or have the trainers sewn shut to better accommodate older bed wetters.
Just like Happy Heiny’s diapers, the Pocket Trainers are made with custom-milled fleece and an outer PUL layer to hold in wetness.
Happy Heiny's Trainers have been child tested and last 12+ hours overnight with no wicking for most children. Trainers are available in a variety of solid colors and feature a 100 percent poly laminated outer layer and work wonderfully for potty trainers who still need protection overnight. Trainers are also available in larger sizes for bedwetters up to 120 lbs.
ABOUT HAPPY HEINY’S STACINATOR
Happy Heiny’s exclusively manufactures Stacinator diaper covers. The Stacinator line of diaper covers includes So Simple, Stretch Wool and Fleece Diaper Covers. The So Simple is an easy-care snap cover that can also be used as a pull-on cover. Parents can simply unsnap the waistband and pull it on over their favorite fitted diaper. The wool used in Stacinator diaper covers is especially milled for Happy Heiny’s.
Stacinator So Simple
These PUL covers are made of very thin and lightweight polyurethane laminated polyester. The leg and waist bands are soft and water-resistant to stop leaks. They are full enough to accommodate thick fitted diapers, yet the smooth styling fits easily under clothing -- ideal for everyday use. This easy-care snap cover can be used as a pull-on cover, too. Just unsnap the waistband snaps and pull it on.
Stacinator Stretch Wool
Happy Heiny’s also makes a 100 percent wool cover that is stretchable, as soft as a T-shirt and offers great protection for babies. The Stacinator Stretch Wool cover is custom milled and was rigorously tested by a group of moms and babies of all sizes and ages with great success.
The Stretch Wool is ideal for both day and night protection and works beautifully overnight for all types of wetters. They are trim enough to fit nicely under clothing or pajamas. The design has four reinforced snaps at each side of the waist and legs for added adjustability and durability.
Stacinator Fleece
Happy Heiny’s fleece covers are made from 200 weight fleece made by Malden Mills, which is a no-pill, tightly woven fabric. It is the same weight and type that many upscale mail-order and retail stores use for their serious outerwear. Experienced cloth-diapering moms swear by this brand of fleece for superior wetness protection and leak prevention.
The solid deluxe covers are made with one layer of high quality waterproof Malden Mills fleece; waterproof print covers have two layers of high quality Malden Mills fleece. The single layer covers work as well as the two layer covers, without the bulk.
Both covers are a great option for heavy wetters and for longer periods between diaper changes as well as four snaps at the waist and legs for maximum adjustment.
